List of Essential Documents

Please ensure you carry all the required documents as per the list below while applying for a China visa.

Passport

  • The passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of travel.
  • The passport should consist of at least 2 blank pages.
  • Enclose old passports with the application.
  • Handwritten passports, passports with observation and valid passports exceeding 10 years of duration are unacceptable.

Photograph

  • The photograph must be clicked within the past 3 months' duration.
  • The dimensions of the photograph should be 35 × 45 mm, featuring 80% of the face.
  • The image should be clicked against a plain white background with a matte finish.

Vaccination Certificate

  • Applicants must bring the vaccination certificate photocopy showing their doses.

Visa Application Form

  • The visa application form should be duly filled and checked by the applicant.

Appointment Confirmation

  • It is mandatory for applicants to bring an appointment confirmation letter.

Additional Requirements

Cover Letter

  • All applicants must have a cover letter stating the purpose of the visit and other personal details.
  • The cover letter must be addressed to:
    • Embassy of China, New Delhi, or
    • Consulate General of China, Mumbai, or
    • Consulate General of China, Kolkata.

Other Mandates

  • All the documents should be mentioned in English.
  • If the documents are not in English, an official translation is required.
  • The Embassy or Consulate may ask for other essential documents or call the applicant for a personal interview.
  • Biometrics is mandatory for every applicant (subject to age rules mentioned below).

Occupation-wise Requirements

Employed

  • Employed applicants must bring company letters on the company letterhead.
  • The letter must include the applicant's name, designation and the signature of the authorized signatory.
  • Last 3 months’ payslips.
  • Leave sanction letter or No Objection Certificate.
  • If an applicant recently switched jobs, the applicant must show a company appointment letter.

Self-Employed

  • Cover letter on official business letterhead.
  • Business registration certificate such as GST certificate, Partnership Deed, Memorandum of Understanding, etc.
  • Valid proof of proprietorship.

Student

  • Bonafide certificate from the educational institution.
  • Student identity card (hard copy).

Retired

  • Applicants under this category must bring retirement proof or the last 3 months' pension slips.

Stay Proof & Jurisdiction

  • If the passport is issued in a different jurisdiction from the jurisdiction of the visa application, an original company letter and rental agreement are required.
  • Mumbai jurisdiction: Maharashtra, Karnataka.
  • Kolkata jurisdiction: Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar.
  • Delhi jurisdiction: All other states.

Biometrics

  • If the application is submitted in the Mumbai or Kolkata jurisdiction, then the applicant has to present biometrics.
  • Applicants below 14 years and above 70 years of age don’t require biometrics.

Marriage Certificate

  • If the applicant is married and the spouse's name is not mentioned in the passport, then a marriage certificate is required.

Staying with Friends & Family in China

  • Applicants must have an invitation letter from the inviting person residing in China.
  • The letter must include:
    • Applicant’s name, passport number, travel dates, places of travel and purpose of travel.
    • A clear Chinese seal and authorized signature.
  • The letter must be addressed to:
    • Embassy of China, New Delhi, or
    • Consulate General of China, Mumbai, or
    • Consulate General of China, Kolkata.
  • The details must also include the inviting person's permanent address proof, contact number and ID.

Sponsor Documents

  • If the applicant is being sponsored, the occupation documents of the sponsor are also required.
